Girl in Hyacinth Blue by Susan Vreeland (author of the month of May) tells the story of Jan Vermeer’s painting through its current owners backwards in time to it’s inception. Each person who possessed it was entranced by the painting’s beauty and each owner’s story shows us a different view from the prism of love. Susan writes simply with skill in presenting historical details of life in Holland over the last few centuries. It was easy to read in one evening and has created an interest in me to read more by this author. She has won numerous awards for this particular title and it is available through the interlibrary loan system.
