Dancing the Dream ... the seven sacred paths of human transformation, 1998, written by Jamie Sams is a native spiritual genre book that takes the Medicine Wheel further in our lives. Knowledge shared by native elders and Jamie's own life experiences create a fascinating story that we find hard to put down once we start reading. The seven sacred paths are an evolutionary circle that originates in Medicine Wheel thinking. The first four paths are the four directions: East, South, West and North (in that order) and we can cycle through the
lessons of these directions many times. Sometimes we move forward onto paths 5-7 and
might return to issues not fully resolved from any one of the first four paths. Jamie describes
the 5th path as ABOVE (infinity/spirit) and the 6th path as BELOW where we connect
with the spirit in all things that are earthly as well as heavenly. On the 7th path we are living
in the present moment, the now, or WITHIN with full awareness.
The process is one of remembering our authentic selves, our intrinsic wholeness. By
completing life lessons we gradually remove the seven veils of separation that prevent
us from knowing. Each veil involves specific issues: 1st veil is about oneness of all things
in the universe; 2nd veil concerns our spiritual essence or divine purpose; 3rd veil is about
sensory perceptions; 4th veil is about emotional masks we wear and 5th veil is created by our
belief systems. You are beginning to see the steps required to remove these veils. At the
the 6th veil there are extrasnnsory perceptions that may have been awakened in the earlier
stages and the 7th veil is created by our identity and the concepts that hold our identity
together.
Jamie's discovery process takes us into the Southern Seer tradition and we learn about
the Dreamweave which we all can explore through dreams or meditation practices when
the mental chatter of mind fades away into the stillness or Tiyoweh. Jamie helps us to learn
what works and what doesn't work for each of us. The native tradition teaches respect for
each person's spiritual journey and allowing each one the freedom to make their journey.
I read and assimilated the contents of this book in small chunks and know when I read it
again at some future time I will have a new understanding and enjoy it just as much.
There are six other items published by this author: Medicine Cards (David Carson)
Sacred Path Cards, The Sacred Path Workbook, Other Council Fires Were Here Before
Ours (with Twylah Nitsch), The Thirteen Original Clan Mothers, Earth Medicine.

Seven Things That Steal Your Joy and 100 Ways to Simplify Your Life by Joyce Meyer
Joyce Meyer - CD Talking Books Reviews
Seven Things That Steal Your Joy by Joyce Meyer, 2004, is a 5 CD set of scriptural wisdom. The teachings are based on the premise that we are meant to enjoy life and we are to keep our joy in order to be strong against evil (the thing that steals our joy). There are seven ways our lives can be robbed of joy and Joyce offers seven antidotes or ways we can keep our joy when challenged by these situations. The suggestions are straight forward and rooted in scripture.
She also offers simple prayers to say that can be effective in maintaining a joy-filled life. The
wisdom she shares is based on her life’s experience and her ministry work. If you have ever tried to reason your way out of a complicated life, sit back and listen to heartfelt advice on
experiencing balance, contentment and joy every day.
100 Ways to Simplify Your Life by Joyce Meyer, lists practical steps to take in a path of simplicity. I listened to this CD set once from start to finish. The second time I listened with a pen in hand and took notes in order to anchor the steps more firmly in consciousness.
Some suggestions are rooted in simple efficiency, some offer positive self-talk while
others give sensible financial habits. Each way has biblical references to connect the practice
within a Christian frame of mind. All the suggestions given will help someone defeat joy
stealer #3 'complicating simple issues' in Seven Things That Steal Your Joy.
Both sets of CD's were an easy way to process a lot of material quickly. It was my first
experience with the library's collection of talking books and I plan to check out more. Joyce
narrates Seven Things That Steal Your Joy and Joyce's daughter narrates 100 Ways to Simplify
Your Life. Both women have good public speaking voices and Joyce has the deeper toned strong
minister's voice.

Kabul beauty school
Kabul beauty school by Deborah Rodriguez. 305.486 ROD (2007)
I really enjoyed reading this book. The courage and desire of the Afghan women to come to a beauty school and learn a trade, so they may in turn support their family is at sometimes overwhelming to me. The book made me happy to have the life I live here in Swift Current, SK, Canada.

This is a really neat book on how to crochet (you guessed it) tiny yarn animals! I really like this book. The instructions are pretty simple and the results are so cute! So far I have made the octopus which turned out great. I highly recommend this book to crafters and lovers of tiny cute things.

Healing with Color : An Experience of Aura-Soma by Philippa Merivale
Healing with Color : An Experience of Aura-Soma by Philippa Merivale explores the world of color in uniquely personal ways. The use of color in healing dates back to ancient Egypt so although it is not an original concept the application explored in this book is.
An elderly blind British woman introduced this method of using colored liquids to enhance
psychological healing with the surprising result of physical healing also occurring in many
instances. The liquids are a combination of crystal elixirs, flower essences and essential oils.
The vibrant color plates in the center of the book show various combinations in bottles created
by the aura-soma practitioners. They carry the essence of light refracted through a medium
so the potential for their use is unlimited. The author shares her personal journey as she
discovers aura-soma's benefits for herself and her family.

Three Fantastic Cookbooks
Cookbook Reviews
Three cookbooks that present current food wisdom/trends, fantastic recipes and great visuals
also recommend buying locally, list the benefits of eating/entertaining at home and make
abundant use of organic ingredients in simple recipes. Fresh whole foods are the way to a
healthier life according to these chefs and editors.
The Ultra Metabolism Cookbook by Mark Hyman, M.D., 2007 focuses on understanding
'functional' medicine through seven factors and the first 60 pages give sound advice for
wellness through proper nutrition. The 200 recipes that follow use ingredients that I stock on
my shelves and in my fridge. They are divided into Phase 1 and Phase 2 if you choose to
follow Mark's program. For anyone who loves salads and vegetable side dishes the vegetarian
entrees are balanced and well-flavored with fresh herbs or spices. My favorites are Lime
Scented Coconut Rice on p.159 and Cajun Black-Eyed Peas on p.132. The seafood section
focuses on shellfish with 2 fish recipes and lamb recipes form the entire meat section.
Rachel Ray's Big Orange Book, 2008 is as upbeat as it sounds. The recipes begin on p.12
with 30 minute meals, end on p.352 with Holiday Menus, and the gourmet recipes in between
call for white wine, Italian cheeses, fresh ingredients with a low fat attitude. It is perfect for
special occasion dinners with a European flair. With an emphasis on beef, chicken, pasta
and/or cheese entrees there are also some excellent vegetable recipes like Vegetable-
Pita Fattoush on p.152 (a Middle Eastern staple) and Winter Greens Pasta on p.140.
Food Cures: Breakthrough Nutritional Prescriptions ... by Reader's Digest, 2007 is an
unusual third cookbook. Nutritional education is the backbone of this book and the 75
recipes at the end show food that is good for your body can also taste delightful.
Fresh ingredients, healthy fats and easy preparation make these recipes attractive. The
main dish entrees include beef, chicken, turkey, pork, fish and shellfish in a wide range
of recipes. This book demonstrates how easy it is to prepare and enjoy the foods that
help us feel good. Personal favorites are sides Shitake Green Beans, Roasted Root
Vegetables and Brussels Sprouts with Caramelized Onions on p.320-321.
Books are available at the Swift Current Library.
